Default Volvo Penta Electric Tilt Troulbe

I have a volvo penta AQ131A engine with electric tilt. The tilt is
designed to work in neutral only. I have had A LOT of trouble with
lifting the motor up when coming in to shore and also when taking the
boat out. The lower unit goes all the way down and locks down fine. The
problem is once it is down I can't get it back up unless I lift up on
the lower unit and someone pushes the up button at the same time. I
have had trouble with it for some time including it not going down
sometimes. I tapped on the electric motor and it did go down. I had
someone check the electric motor and the brushes were fine but a small
brass pin did need some adjustment. Early in the season the thrust rod
was adjusted and the thrust sleeve replaced. I think they were damaged
due to the previous owner having tilt problems as well.

It is very frustrating to not be able to go into shore and have the
motor up not to mention having to lift up on the motor manually
initially to get it to go up electrically.

Does anyone have any idea on what to do to get the electric trim to
work consistently?

Are you sure it's not the drive locking mechanism under the exterior of the
drive? I have the same drive (VP 270)and the only problem I've had of this
nature was due to the locking pawl not releasing properly. (adjust and/or
lube regularly)

As for that goofy electric tilt motor setup, mine kept loosening the 2 long
attachment bolts, so I did away with them and tie-wrapped it- has gone over
100 hrs now without moving again.
