In article ,
says...

Yes its the plotter overlay on the radar screen that's locking up

Let me offer two trains of thought here.

1 Consult the owners manual to make sure the data communication is
programmed specifically for the 41XX unit. Your plotter can be set for
the 41X, the 41XX, and the 21X or 21XX. You must insure the 41XX setting
as your plotters output data string!

2 Your 601XX plotter was designed and built to use the older Raystar
105, 108, or 112 GPS mushrooms. They had simple NMEA 0183 V2.1 output
strings. I believe you have a differant GPS sensor, and there is a small
possibility of having input data string overflow to the 601XX which will
result in it simply 'going to sleep' after it thinks it sees bad checksums
in the input data strings. This overflow would manifest over a time period
such as you are experiencing.

Now as a last consideration, check your cabling, perhaps clean the
connector pins with a Q-tip soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol. Insure that
all shields are in place, making sure the little 'snap together' ferrite
core is on your plotter to radar interface cable. Above all else, make
sure the negative ground connections for the radar and plotter go to the
same ground point on your power buss. Electrical noise from inverters, d.c.
motors such as bilge pumps, and even ignition noise from your engine(s) can
drive these unit totally nuts. Perhaps you may want to turn off everything
except your GPS/plotter/radar unit, and see if it behaves.

If all of this fails, the techies at Raymarine are good for answers to
common problems, but not strange problems. I think there are some FAQ links
for common problems on the Raymarine website.

I will check the newsgroup for your future postings. Please let us know
what you find as we may all learn something. Sorry that my reply-to address
is phoney. I absolutely must do that as my real email address cannot endure
spamming.

I would check the communication settings. sounds like a data overrun. Do
not know if there are stop bits, or a clear to send line. RTFM.

Hi all

I have this issue
I have done a hard reset on both units

The Raychart puts the chart on the radar screen ok but after about 30
seconds, the chart plotting seems to lock up. With the exception of ,
you can still move the cross-hairs and only the cross hairs. no other
button on the 601 does anything except the power button

If you power off and then back on the 601, it will work fine for abut
30 more seconds.

ANy thoughts?

Thanks
Mark

WOW

ya know...
I completely forgot that I replaced the GPS sensor this year.

The GPS which is a Raytheon 398, is working fine!

I will check the output, making sure that the 601 plotter is set up
correctly
and that the radar is set to receive correctly and I will check all my
connections

I have two 601 units and they both do the same thing

Thanks guys!!!
:-)
