Default Raychart 601 connected to a Raytheon R41 XX Radar

Hi all

I have this issue
I have done a hard reset on both units

The Raychart puts the chart on the radar screen ok but after about 30
seconds, the chart plotting seems to lock up. With the exception of ,
you can still move the cross-hairs and only the cross hairs. no other
button on the 601 does anything except the power button

If you power off and then back on the 601, it will work fine for abut
30 more seconds.

ANy thoughts?

Thanks
Mark

How does your gps work on it's own? If it is fine then the trouble is most
likely in the gps connection to the raychart or the C-Map cartridge being
used.

I always had good results dealing with the techs from Raymarine. Maybe you
can shoot them an email and they can give you some troubleshooting tips.

WEll ... let me give you more details

The GPS is a Raytheon 398 and works great.
The chart plotter is a Raytheon 601 ( I have 2 of these units)

The Radar is a Raytheon R41 XX

THe 601 puts the chart (only the chart) on the radar screen

it works great for about 30-45 seconds then seems to lock up. But...
I can move the cross-hairs on the chart plotter and the rest of the
chart plotter (only the chart plotter) LOCKS UP TIGHT

Everything else works fine

any thoughts?

Thanks
Mark

Again, I would check the hard wire connection between the gps and the chart
plotter, and for a defective C-Map cartridge. Does radar show up OK on the
same screen?

In article ,
says...

well the plotter displays the data on the radar screen
if I dosconned the plotter from the radar, How will I know if it
locked up?

THanks
Mark

The plotter has its own screen, that was what I thought you were having
trouble with, the plotter locking up. Is it actually the plotter overlay
on the radar screen that is locking up? I think I have mis-understood your
explaination of the problem.

Let me assume (yup, I know, the pun) that your GPS drives the Plotter
on it's data input connector, And the Plotter data output connector goes
to your 41XX, and these would be the BNC type connections.

May I first suggest disconnecting the Plotter from the 41XX and watch for
lockup to occur on the plotter. If this happens, I may have an idea of
what is wrong.

Please reply back to the thread if I am incorrect about your interconnection
routing as this will have a bearing on things.

Certain Raytheon gear just doesn't co-operate with other gear correctly,
and I have seen your problem before. Give me some more info on how you
have things wired together, and send an email to the Raymarine techies.
They are real good with help, but they don't know about some of the odd
things I have seen with their equipment. I have my own service notebook.

I would check the communication settings. sounds like a data overrun. Do
not know if there are stop bits, or a clear to send line. RTFM.

WOW

ya know...
I completely forgot that I replaced the GPS sensor this year.

The GPS which is a Raytheon 398, is working fine!

I will check the output, making sure that the 601 plotter is set up
correctly
and that the radar is set to receive correctly and I will check all my
connections

I have two 601 units and they both do the same thing

Thanks guys!!!
:-)
