Hi Rusty,
I just installed a Garelick Outboard Bracket for my 9.9 HP Yamaha. I bought the
largest one they make (4 strokes need stronger mounts). Mine has a 15 inch travel,
which allows me to lower my long shaft well below the water line, or get it high above my sailboat
transom for tilting it out of the water. You may not need that
much travel, but be sure to get a strong enough bracket for that 4-stroke.
Be sure to shop for the best price. I bought mine at Cabelas for half of what they
asked for at West Marine.

Guys I recently bought a Lund Bass Boat and want to use my Evinrude 9.9 4
stroke as a kicker. But the 9.9 is a short shaft. Instead of buying a kit
and converting it to use, couldn't I just mount something like a jack plate
set up that would allow me to lower it to the correct hight for use. I still
want to use this motor on an old Jon boat I have that is great for use when
the Delaware River gets very shallow. I would like not to have to buy
another motor. Any ideas.

These guys make exactly what you need. It's available through almost all major
marine retailers, including Defender, BoatUS, West marine, etc.
