Guys I recently bought a Lund Bass Boat and want to use my Evinrude 9.9 4
stroke as a kicker. But the 9.9 is a short shaft. Instead of buying a kit and converting it to use, couldn't I just mount something like a jack plate set up that would allow me to lower it to the correct hight for use. I still want to use this motor on an old Jon boat I have that is great for use when the Delaware River gets very shallow. I would like not to have to buy another motor. Any ideas. |

Any ideas? ================================== I'm not sure how much your Evinrude 9.9 weighs, but I've had a 4 HP Evinrude mounted on my swimplatform using a spring loaded, swing-up motor mount. It keeps the prop out of the water when I'm running and lowers it so that I can troll with no problem. To keep it from bouncing around when I'm on plane, I snub the motor up tight to the towing ring. I have a long shaft motor and with the standard mount, it put the prop too low in the water, so I made up a new mount by laminating 3 layers of 34 in. plywood to keep the prop higher. With your short shaft, the swing up mount might be just where you want it and you won't have to make a new one. I'm not sure what a new swing-up mount costs these days, but I bought this one for about $70 15 years ago. They sell used for about $10 if you can find one. I think West & Boat-US carries them. Happy boating, Norm |
