The problem with this "joke" is that it perpetuates a myth that black
people are unable to enunciate well. Look at Tim's comment in this thread. Jesse Jackson is very well spoken, but Tim was quick to hang this demeaning racial stereotype on Jackson. And people think that Bush is a bad speaker. Jesse uses phrases like "AX" for "ask" and "Ed-a-casin" instead of education..... BTW, did you ever watch much black rap or hip-hop videos? If not, you should....Now theres a true lesson in proper vernacular and grammar. |
I have never noticed Jessie using Ebonics, except when he wanted to, but it
is very possible he uses "AX" etc. Ebonics is very real, and is a problem that needs to be addressed. Comedy can be a very effective tool when addressing serious issues. I wonder why Gould and Harry have failed to hear Ebonics on TV, in movies, on hip hop and videos and in the real world. Is it possible that they are the racist? "Tim" wrote in message oups.com... With the PC loonies here calling this a racist joke in fact makes them the real racists as they obviously believe that is the way "black folks" talk. How funny yet how pathetic. |
Ted,
Loved your polish joke. "Ted" tedwilliams@nospam wrote in message ... On Fri, 10 Jun 2005 21:01:43 -0400, "*JimH*" wrote: Though we often disagree, I thought it was funny. Then again, I am not PC. Actually my last name throws people. I am Polish. (Long story but started generations back on immigration). I tell more Polish jokes than anyone. You have to be able to laugh at yourself. Like the Polish airplane pilot coming in for a landing, he looks at the runway and said to his co-pilot "Damn that is a short runway, 50% flaps". They got closer and he said "That is a really short, 75% flaps". As they got close to touchdown he yelled to his co-pilot "That is really a short runway, 100% flaps and full reverse thrust". As they safely landed, they looked around, the pilot said to his co-pilot "That was a really short runway". His co-pilot answered back, "Yeah, but it sure is wide". Then again, my wife is 100% Italian but every once in a while she has a little bit of Polack in her grin Not unusual for people of a different nationality that get tagged with the wrong last name. Years ago, a fellow by the name of Bennie Iusa worked for me. When he came over, he couldn't speak English. When asked his name he didn't understand and said "I USA". That's how he got his last name. TRUE! Ted |
JimH,
I have to agree anyone who thought this racist would think Bill Cosby's jokes were racist. "*JimH*" wrote in message ... "*JimH*" wrote in message ... "*JimH*" wrote in message ... I am laughing my ass off at this racist show. Can you believe how those
white people are making fun of black stereotypes? I think we need to boycott the shows sponsors. Maybe Gould and Harry can start a petition. "John Jay" wrote in message ... We should all take our lead from the master race.
