Didnt realize they were up that far..... I haven't seen my copy for a number of years but as I remember it the "Mclean's Encyclopedia of fishing" indicated that worlds highest concentration of great whites are actually found off the N.J. coast. A recent meeting of the Mass. Striped Bass Assoc. had a talk by a charter Captain who specializes in sharks. Three commonly caught sharks in Ma. is the porbeagle, great white, and blue. Again, If I remember correctly, two of the three that hold the Mass. record are actually larger then the IGFA record catches. They, of course, are not IGFA records because, for one reason or another, they did not meet the IGFA criteria. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water. What's even more interesting is that the official Mass state record eclipses the IFGA record by a healthy amount if I remember correctly - something like 300 lbs or thereabouts. I wonder why the IFGA disallowed the record? Probably because it wasn't an IFGA Charter Captain or member. :) Some strange rules. Friend of mine caught the largest sport caught Albacore a few years ago. 90#'s. By himself in his Grady, that did have a transom door, so he could get it in the boat. The tuna feather, had a standard double hook, but since the shanks were not welded together, no record. I was kidding - they do have some strange rules. Later, Tom |
