Default outboard bogs...points?

I have an older (1966) 100 hp Merc that bogs under load. Newer (last year)
wires, rotor, cap...rebuilt carbs $ fuel pumps. Compression is good
(121-130). Ran fine 'til this year. The points look pitted (they were not
replaced), could this be the problem?

Thanks,

TC

Could be TC, but I doubt it. I wonder if you have a good fuel delivery?
like make sure theres no crap int he tank that could be cloggint the
fuel filter on the tank end of the line. also, you may have some type
of a gasket leaking. two strokes are really critical about proper
vacuum.

another thing, are you using last years fuel? it could have turned to
shelac on you as it doesn't keep well like int he "good old days" and
your carbs could be gummed again.

outside of that, I'm lost

check the plugs. If they are dark black then you almost certainly have
an ignition problem. coil points, etc. I had an old 1970 60hp
evinrude and they were just starting to use electronic iginition and it
took them a while to get it right. Anytime I tried to solve the
problem any other way I always landed back with ignition. That oil
laden fuel mixture is hell to ignite.

have fun.

It sounds like fuel starvation?

Maybe a vacuum leak? Old rubber vacuum lines are leaking?

Love those old 2 strokes with all those lovely old worn carburetors.

Hell, that motor is almost 40 years old? wow............

Our top outboard repair shop is now too busy to get into and they won't work
on anything old that 20 years because of the problem with parts.

There are plenty of 10 year old motors and boats out there that are very
cheap.

** Soon there will be only single carbs on single and twin cylinder
outboards or fuel injection on all 3 to 6 cylinder 4 strokes and 2 strokes.

Is it points with a CDI switchbox or points with the duel-ignition coil
setup?

If it's 100hp and not a 110, I'm thinking it may well be a 1965

I'm betting on clogged carbs from sitting as a 1st guess though.
Particularly if all was OK last season till the end.
