Subject: does anyone talk about BOATS here, ever?

You're absolutely right and it's unfortunate. I wish this could
become a moderated forum. Then and only then the OT crap would
stop. Seems that only the OT posters would have a probem with
this.

There are plenty of moderated boating forums. So why do you stay here if you
don't like it?

Folks like you sound just like the people how call into a radio talk show
telling the host how much the hate him or her and hate the show. But of course
they tune in everyday. :-)

The point is...we DO like the boating information here. He just doesnt feel
(and justly so) that he should have to wade through other garbage that
doesnt belong here, to get to it.

Do you have a clue what I'm talking about? Ever bothered to see
which group you are in? It's called rec.boats! What the hell do
the political posts have to do with boating information? I know
there are other forums, but personally prefer newsgroup based
forums to web based.

One can filter out 98% of the OT stuff by name. That's what I do and
most people should do if they want to by-pass the constant barrage of
OT political posts. Occasionally one slips through and in one case,
it was kind of interesting so I posted my two cents and let it alone.

My own personal opinion is that this belongs in other groups where
they can smash and bash each other to their hearts content.

By the way, this isn't the only group where this has happened. I have
a theory about it, but it's strictly amateur, based on my own opinions
about life, the universe and everything and thus has no validity to
anyone other than me.

It's a free country, the newsgroup is public and they have the right
and ability to do it here. The only defense in that situation is to
filter. Screaming and hollering about it only adds to the
signal-to-noise ratio and is counter-productive to the original intent
of the group.

Then why does he/you ?
Wade through the garbage that is?
Most newsgroups are just like this one.
And whinning about it only adds to the OT count.

So, just don't read any post labled OT.
Or better yet, filter them and the main OT posters out.
It's a bit of a no brainer.

Not really.
See, I can stop myself from reading OT posts. And know how to setup filters.
Unlike, apparently some of you.

Ever bothered to see
which group you are in? It's called rec.boats!

Do tell.

What the hell do
the political posts have to do with boating information?

I would guess the same thing they have to do with the topics of the other
forums they infest, nothing.
So why do you read them?
Can't help yourself?

I know
there are other forums, but personally prefer newsgroup based
forums to web based.

So now you are saying you like unmoderated newsgroups better than moderated
forums!?
But want the unmoderated newsgroups to run like moderated forums.

Funny, I could have swore you wrote:
"I wish this could
become a moderated forum."

I give up. When the two of you come to a consensus on what you think, get back
to me.

Till then, get used to the way things work around here and learn how to work
around them. Because they aren't going to be changing any time soon from what I
can see. Thank goodness.

Yes he does have a legitimate question, as has almost everyone who has
replied to this thread: Why are so many posts, especially by folks
like yourself, (1)off topic and (2)abusive. This threads is lamenting
the demise of this NG into infighting among digital hillbillys that
have nothing to contribute to boating. Let's look at the ratio of
boating to OT posts on rec.boats. Start w/ yourself and move on to
the other regulars on this NG.

Tell you what, use that line "Do you have a specific question about
boats you'd like answered?" after every response to a post you make
here. Better yet, ponder that line before you take fingers to
keyboard in the future. Poof... Silence.

Really? What WAS that question?

Mr. basskisser,

If you take the time to carefully read the original post, you will
find the following line:

"How 'bout some talk about BOATS?"

Now, Mr. basskissser, to use one of your quotes: "Do you have a
specific question about boats you'd like answered?"
