Just luck. My belts were 6 years old also. Looked fine-no serious wear
evident. In fact, I marveled at how good they looked. The P/S belt
failed, breaking cleanly. Derailed the ALT belt. Learned lesson quick.
replace every 4 years or 400 hrs, and carry spares.

Not the belt. I had the belt on my 1950CL changed after six years because I
thought I was pressing my luck. I looked at the old belt before I threw it
away - it looked almost the same as the new one the dealer just installed;
no wear was evident.
