What might be the first thing to break or shut down on the little 3.0
Mercruiser engine that would leave you stranded in the middle of a
lake? Considering it's kept well maintained and run in the 3200-3500
rpm range. Excluding fuel and battery.
Thanks,
HJJ

I had the 3.0L GM (would assume that is what you are taking about) with an
OMC, the engine was fine, did shift timing allot. If it does not have
electronic ignition on it I would convert to electronic pick-up and points,
best thing I ever did with it.

Not sure what size hull you are pushing with it, but the engine is great in
a small boat, my buddy had in a 19 runabout and ran like a raped ape. Mine
was in a 22 Trophy, heavy boat, and it was too much strain for that engine.

I loved that engine, hated the drive.

Overall, the points were the only issue I had.
