Rumsfeld told "Fox News Sunday" that if the United States had able to get
its 4th Infantry Division into northern Iraq through Turkey, more of Saddam's Baathist regime would have been captured or killed, diminishing the insurgency. Anyone who expected Turkey to cooperate on a military adventure which would benefit those Kurds advocating & committed to an independent Kurdish nation is woefully ignorant... ignorant to the point where they have no business having anything to do with Middle Eastern policy. In fact, alienating Turkey, a long standing and staunch former ally *as well as* a strong secular democracy, is one of the biggest failures of the Bush Administration's Middle East policy... oddly enough, the liberal biased media doesn't say much about it. ... but they backed out at the last minute...which cost us the ability to cut off the Baghdad to Syria escape route used by fleeing Baath officials (and Russian Spetsnatz hauling WMD). ------------------------------------------------------------------- Who knew that Rummie was a lurker on rec.boats? Uh huh. Rummy's pretty clever, putting those parantheses in his speech. Does he use Victor Borge's phonetic punctuation? DSK |
