Correction! It seems he is coming apart at the seams :-)

He has done so every time someone went after him with arguments.
Unfortunately, the problem is not that he eventually gets unmasked as a
troll with nothing meaningful to say, but that he manages to draw so
many
people into arguing with him every time he feels like trolling, before
those people come to that very conclusion for themselves.

I would not put him in the troll category. I think he mostly believes
what
he says, which is why he is both fascinating and...well...creepy.

Wilko is correct. And so are you.

Scott is a very intelligent and extremely well spoken 'troll' of sorts.
Look at
his sig. file, that should clue you into who Scott is.

Scott thrives on anyone who disagrees with him. He will NOT back down,
ever,
the only way to win is to cease playing the game. I know this because 1)
I've
done battle with him in the past and 2) there's a little (OK, a LOT!) of
Scott
in me too! ;-)

John Kuthe...

I feel he's already backed down by losing his cool and showing his anger and
frustration as an ex-cop that is devoting his life to the opportunity to
shoot someone :-\

There's also the real estate market. Last fall my mother-n-father in
law
bought a house about 10 minutes from "downtown" Ithaca. It's a nice
two
level 3br, 2ba house with a huge two car garage on 25 wooded acres.
They
paid less than $200K for it.
==============

You're certainly not going to get that around here.

But it reminds me of a recent radio discussion of real estate prices
across Canada. The economist suggested that prices are actually much
higher in Winnipeg than in Vancouver. Whilst picking his jaw off the
floor, the host blurted out, "That's ridiculous!" To which the
economist responded, "Not if you factor in the fact that, when buying
real estate in Winnipeg, you also have to live there." Of course the
economist was having a bit of fun with words, but it did make me think
about the various trade-offs we make in our lives.

Damn you.

Jeez, I was hoping you'd have a rain-related retort (cliche though that
may be). Which I would have gladly responded to with "what about the
humidity?"

If it weren't for the weather, I'd have way fewer reasons to call my
best buddy in Ottawa. What makes it particularly delicious is that he's
lived here and would love to come back. However, his wife is nth
generation Ottawa and not likely to leave.

BTW, on another thread, at another time, I'd appreciate your opinion of
kayaking the Rideau and sundry other canals around Ottawa.

LOL. Out here in the East we figure it's a fair trade to have more ice
and
snow but less yuppie snots! ;-D
==================

OK, that accounts for the ice and snow. Now what about the mosquitoes,
black flys, noseeums, etc? What are you trading those for?

What do ya got? I'd settle for a beer - it could even be cheap beer.

;-D ... is that a gloat or is it a belly laugh?

Now you haven't been following the thread carefully now have you? As
KMAN points out, I'm in the land "yuppie snots". We don't ever use the
words "beer" and "cheap" in the same sentence. If it's not
micro-brewery beer according to the Bavarian Purity Law, we don't allow
it to pass our lips. And our coffees are only bird-friendly, fair
trade, elixirs. GRIN

But perhaps there's something we can trade. Oh, BTW, our grow-ops are
reputed to produce some of the finest stuff around. I understand
there's a brisk trade in that (much to the chagrin of the border
police).

Heh. Just check out www.gokayaking.ca

Wow! Nice site. If the weater weren't getting so good, I think I'd be
spending more than a few hours visiting... I will anyway!

In terms of canals "in" Ottawa, there's only one and it doesn't offer
much
for paddling. But the Rideau River has some fun little trips right in
town
depending on the season, and continues down to Kingston as part of the
canal
system and there are lots of great trips in there.
==================

Two years ago, after my Ottawa buddy and I did some kayaking around
Nanaimo, we talked about me coming out east, and we dreamed about the
Kingston trip.

My wife and I moved to a shoreline property on the mighty Ottawa River
in
December and can't wait for the ice to go out...it's going to be
amazing to
be ten seconds from getting on the water!
======================

Man! And I thought I had it sweet with only a 5 minute drive to the
beach on English Bay. That 10 seconds sounds amazing indeed.

Cheers,

We finally figured out that if we were serious about paddling on a more
frequent basis we'd have to do something drastic.

A 5 minute drive to English Bay sounds pretty good!

My dream is to buy up one of the little cottages nearby and turn it into a
specialized B&B for paddlers :-)

That would be "seams" you illiterate putz.

He starts out sort of dignified and even prissy, but as his own thoughts are
turned inward on him through conflict with basic logic and reason, he comes
unravelled rather quickly and starts to lash out in a vulgar and violent
fashion.

Wrong. I only engage in vulgar insult in direct response to your vulgar
insults.

What we seem to have here is an angry ex-cop anxious for the opportunity to
kill someone.

Hm. Well, I suppose that means you ought to stay the hell away from
Colorado. Suits me.

One day it will be a moment of dubious distinction to be able to say "I
corresponded with Scott Weiser before he went postal."

Don't hold your breath....no, wait, DO hold your breath waiting for it.
