Inspectors condemn buildings on island used by water-skiers County cracks down on delta dwellings built 35 years ago Entire article at http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...AG0EBG6I71.DTL Golden Isle is a five-acre paradise for water-skiers in the delta. Owned by what appears to be the nation's oldest water ski club, the island is ringed by 28 docks leading to handsome cabins and campers with kitchens and bathrooms. It's only accessible by boat. But paradise has a problem. Contra Costa County building inspectors hitched a ride on Wednesday with the sheriff's marine patrol to Golden Isle, where they spent two hours red- tagging all 28 buildings -- many built in the 1970s -- for demolition... ....The culture-clashing crackdown started in 2002. A homeowner on 17-acre Salisbury Island, who wanted more electricity, contacted Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which in turn called the county when it found that all the residents used a single feed. |
