While your intentions are sincere I doubt that a matter of a couple of hundred votes is going to have any impact on the election. Chuck Gould offered a nice solution to the problem. Read it in the thread "Starting a new newsgroup". I will be interested to see if everyone agrees on his solution, especially those Chuck names in his post. As I said, I am in, but will bow once the agreement is breached by one of the "Dirty 7", as well as the likes of doug kanter, Dave Hall, bb, JohnH, ignoramus and basskisser. ;-) I'm NOT "in". Those that have been here long enough will recall when the spamming OMC dealers were raging, a "truce" was offered for one month. All we had to do was not be abusive & just say what technical things we needed to say. I signed up & as soon as I had, the others just continued & indeed made things even worse for me over the month it took to serve out what I said I'd do. I was determined to honour the undertaking. So don't kid yourself Jim, Harry the liar & his cohorts are scum & will just take advantage of anything they can to continue the abusive OT behaviour, & forget trying to pretend alice in wonderland style, that he'll improve if other stop, as I know you already know he just gets worse!!! I intend defending myself & what I say, I've seen the great results your current great president has had on the war against terror:-) so think appeasement is for liars & cowards; or the french of course:-) K "Clams Canino" wrote in message news:b9WMb.44637$na.37052@attbi_s04... Since so many people here wish to impart partisan political influence, I think the only thing to do is let them. Therefore........ from this moment on I'll be looking at the originating OT posts to see if they come from the DNC or the GOP lackeys. I'm counting hijacking an on topic thread to make it political as "originating" an OT thread. And I'll be voting for the party in November that originates the FEWER OT posts. ![]() Since so many here wish to sway hearts and minds - perhaps if enough people lined up with me, it would make them think. -W |

You constant refer to those who disagree with you as scum, liars and worse and that sort of intemperate behavior does nothing to sway the undecided. Frankly, while I disagree with almost every political statement your friend Harry Krause posts here, it is your behavior I find disagreeable. You keep reposting hundreds of lines of your spin on statements he has posted, you claim they are all lies, and yet you offer no real proof of anything. Are you having serious problems in your personal life that you must attack others so viciously? I admit I am a little over the edge in my conservative political beliefs, but knowing that I poke a little fun mostly at myself and sometimes at others, but always with a smile. You aren't smiling. |

jps,
What do you think about ignoring the OT posts and seeing if we can get a NG that is more related to boating? I can tell you enjoy baiting those you disagree politically, but there are a ton of NG you can have heated political discussions. It would be interesting to see what people talked about if we stopped talking politics. "jps" wrote in message ... In article , says... If truly a conservative, you're among a handful I've witnessed with the ability (and propensity) to be self deprecating. I honestly thought you were left of center based on your (very entertaining) posts and thought awareness of self was an exclusively left thing. Clearly, I was wrong. Unless you're yanking our rodes. jps |

jps,
I am not suggesting anyone leave the group, I just thought Chuck's suggestion was a good one. If you enjoy the theme and tone of the we currently have, then there is no reason to change. Have a good day. "jps" wrote in message ... Unless you're yanking our rodes. jps No, I'm a conservative, but apparently not a 21st Century Republican Conservative. I voted for Bush the last time out. It was difficult for me because I didn';t trust him much and I didn't think he was overly smart. I would have preferred McCain. I have a lot of problems with the way Bush has turned out, especially in his budget-busting and in his foreign policy but he also makes me nervous with his expanion of police powers. No true conservative wants to see police powers expanded in the kind of democracy we have had until now. Frankly I just don't trust Bush. I don't know what I will do this fall. Hold my nose and vote for Bush or not vote for president or, gasp, vote for the democrat, if he turns out to be a reasonable middle of the road type? I wish a true thinking conservative would enter the races, but Bush surely has the GOP nomination. Maybe we need viable third and fourth parties. |

I wish a true thinking conservative would enter the races, but Bush surely has the GOP nomination. Maybe we need viable third and fourth parties. The Greens just ain't gonna do it. Karl Rove and Grover Norquist want to make it a one party system. I understand that. I wasn't thinking of the greens, although as a true conservative, I am an environmentalist. The really funny thing about most of today's conservatives is that they have not a clue about what true conservatism means. It has almost nothing to do with right-wing politics. As another example, a true conservative is outraged at the intrusion of church into state. If I were you I'd consider Dean. He's been painted as a "liberal" but he sure seems a hell of a lot more conservative than liberal to me. He might be ok but I just don't know a whole lot about him. I am attracted to the fact that he is a doctor because that assures a certain level of smarts. If you're a fiscal conservative and a social moderate-to-liberal, Dean may fit your bill. But, you did describe yourself as a conservative's conservative...that could mean you're also a social conservative which, based on your writing, doesn't seem to fit. As a true conservative, I oppose the government peeking into people's bedrooms. I oppose attempts to infringe upon free speech. I also oppose running up the federal deficit the way it has been done the last two years while at the same time cutting the taxes necessary to pay our country's bills. I do believe, on the whole, Clinton had the country's best interests in mind. This Bush group just couldn't give a **** for anything but business and staying in power. jps In the balance Clinton was a middle of the roader. I wish he would have kept his pants zipped. |
