Ellen MacArthur, already the youngest person and the fastest woman to
sail around the world alone, has become the fastest sailor to complete a
solo non-stop circumnavigation of the globe.

When Francis Joyon took 72 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds to
sail around the world last year, he was the first to do it in a trimaran.

It was generally expected his record would stand for at least 10 years.

Now the 28-year-old MacArthur from the landlocked English county of
Derbyshire has re-written the record books with her mark of 71 days, 14
hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds.

Indeed. But if she did not actually own the boat some here would not
consider her a boater. ;-)

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

C'mon Tom, don't be like Dennis Conner, calling the women sailors
"dykes" just because they beat him.

I didn't say anything about dykes. Nothing at all. Or lesbians.

For all I know Petra could be very happily married to a guy named
Gunner or Thor. :)

It's all in the mind's eye don't cha know. :)

Oh no, you just said that Ellen would have a girlfriend.

Gunner or Thor. :)

And it often looks so much better there than in the real world.

Actually, from what I've read and seen of Ellen MacArthur she is totally
and completely focused on sailing. She is so intensely competitive that
IMHO she'd be a very uncomfortable person to have a relationship with...
although I would like to sail with her as a learning experience.
