Be careful what you ask for because there are quite a few boats out
there that you really don't want passing at speed. The boater is still responsible for his wake. The point is the wake is generally lower on plane than it will be at the "courtesy" speed these folks choose. If you want to be passed with minimal wake, slow waaaay down, almost to a crawl before the faster boat overtakes you There are lots of cases where I am stopped. A heavy 50 footer leaves very little wake at 7 knots, but 3 feet plus at 10 knots. The 50 footers are not the problem. It is usually a 18' bow rider that rocks me by passing at the worst possible speed. |

Not at all. Be glad you don't have to contend with 50 ft sportfish or
motor yachts with tsunami sized wakes. Most of the time I am in ~3' of water. I doubt those motor yachts will be that big a problem. |

I have, with no exaggeration, launched my Ranger completely out of the water hitting a wake from a Hatteras that snuck up on me - I didn't see it coming. Damned things should be banned. Unless, of course, I eventually own one. Then everybody else WATCH OUT!!! :) Later, Tom |

Be glad you don't have to contend with 50 ft sportfish or motor yachts with tsunami sized wakes. If HE slows down to idle in the pontoon, he'll be making 2-3 kts. I'd be making 6, which means I can pass him at a reasonable clip and be on my way. If he tries to get cute and runs at 8-9 kts though, he's then forcing me to go by him either fully on plane (which he doesn't want) or worse, "in the hole" (which he REALLY doesn't want) -- -- Karl Denninger ) Internet Consultant & Kids Rights Activist http://www.denninger.net My home on the net - links to everything I do! http://scubaforum.org Your UNCENSORED place to talk about DIVING! http://www.spamcuda.net SPAM FREE mailboxes - FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME! http://genesis3.blogspot.com Musings Of A Sentient Mind |
