We just couldn't keep the snobby Bostonians in the style they had become accustomed to! Halifax was a garrison town/naval port....no place for lace hankies. Didn't say Washington was a lace hanky guy...I was referring to the 'loyalists' who left with the British evacuation of Boston, but found life here a bit too rough. Most loyalists did quite well...swelling the population of Nova Scotia to the point where the province was split in two. The western side was named New Brunswick. The ancestors on my maternal grandmothers side were loyalists from New York. |
