Default Prop recommendation for 90HP Mercury 2-stroke on 20ft pontoon

I just purchased a new 2005 Mercury 90HP 2-stroke outboard to replace
the 40HP engine on my 20ft pontoon.

The new engine did not come with a prop, so I am seeking
recommendations from the group.

I have not yet talked with a local Mercury dealer. I purchased the
engine online.

Thanks for any feedback that you can provide. I am interested in what
top-speed and the max RPM for the recommended prop.

Thanks.... Tim

I have a new stainless 13.75x15 hubbed Merc if you figure out that is the one
for you. It is a bit too much prop for a 60 big foot on a 20' Harris pontoon so
it might be close for you.

I topped out at about 5100-5200 with it.

make me an offer.

A excellent booklet was put out my Quicksilver. It's called, "everything you
need to know about propellers". And you can actually download it here for
free:

Or also he

If you want the address where you can the actual booklet, let me know and
I'll post the address.

Hope this helps.

That sounds about right.

I have a 90HP merc on a 20ft pontoon as well. The dealer
let me try 3 props before settling on the correct one.

If memory serves,,, we finally settled on a 15 which topped
out my 2-stroke @ 5200-5300.

So what does the online place recommend?

Are you going to buy the prop from the local guy, or just solicit advice
and warrantee service but buy the prop online too?

The online place (ebay auction), did not have a recommendation.

The nearest dealership just closed about a month ago. I have not
tried to track down where the next closest one is. Being that it is
December, and close to Christmas, I am not needing this prop
immediately. I live in North Carolina, and we do have winter here, so
it will be couple of months before I am able to install the engine.

I was hoping, as another poster mentioned, to work with the dealer to
try a couple of 'used' props with varying diameters and pitches, to
determine what size is the best before puchasing a new prop.

I am looking for help from the group to see if anyone was using my
combination, and use that as a starting point.

Thanks... Tim

If you do come up wanting a 15" I can pretty much beat any price you get ;-)
Mine is new, only used about an hour and I never hit anything.
