They found my stolen car
A lady called the sheriff in Citrus Heights north of Sacramento and said my
car was parked there for over a day with no license plates on it. They traded some old tires for my new ones, stole the spare, trade battery, took lots of plastic parts, took all paper work and registration from glove box. They have the gas spout lose and I don't know why? We will be OK now after we get 5 new tires and get it fixed up. No license plates.
Registration gone. Swapped tires (obviously a set of identical size) Took a bunch of trim parts. Sounds like somebody is fixing up an identical model, totaled car. Stealing your plates and registration may allow them to (momentarily) pass under the radar and sell their patched up rig to some unsuspecting Rube. Normally, you get a damaged car never declared a "total" from a junk yard for this purpose- but then again it is cheaper to steal one, isn't it? Very important: Is the dash torn up in conjunction with "trim pieces missing"? Is the VIN plate missing from in front of the steering wheel? If it is, have the state watch for a forged "Affadavit of Lost Title" (or whatever they call the form in your locale). |

Awesome Bill!!! Sounds like they might not have abused it
since they wanted it for the parts. Probably wanted the gas too and that's why the loose gas spout. I bet getting that phone call helped make your 'New Year' too! -Jim Bill Kiene wrote: A lady called the sheriff in Citrus Heights north of Sacramento and said my car was parked there for over a day with no license plates on it. Probably got the loose gas spout by doing a gas station drive-away with the
hose still connected. RichG |

As an aside. Daughter home for Christmas, said as she was leaving Los
Angeles saw a car driving down the street with a gas hose attached. Person in car completely oblivious. Bill "RG" wrote in message ... Probably got the loose gas spout by doing a gas station drive-away with the hose still connected. RichG |

Stealing your plates and registration may allow them to (momentarily) pass under the radar and sell their patched up rig to some unsuspecting Rube. That generally works the other way. Someone buys a total wreck to get the title and plates. They take the plates and VIN off the wreck. Then they steal an identical model car off the street, put the plates and VIN number from the wreck on it. Such a vehicle would pass a casual inspection. It would take a trained eye to spot that the VIN number had been tampered with, and a skilled thief could do such a good job that it may require tracing the engine serial number (or some cars have a secondary VIN #) to establish that the car is not the one listed on the title.
