Default The Bush Administration Wants Your Almanacs

The lunatics in the Bush Administration have gone right over the edge

Washington -- Amid heightened indications that al Qaeda operatives may
be planning catastrophic attacks in the United States, the FBI is
warning police about a new potential tool for terrorism: almanacs.

An FBI intelligence bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies last week
warned that "terrorist operatives may rely on almanacs to assist with
target selection and pre-operational planning" because they include
detailed information on bridges, tunnels and other U.S. landmarks,
officials said.

Although noting that "the use of almanacs or maps may be the product of
legitimate recreational or commercial activities," the bulletin urged
police to watch for suspects carrying almanacs, especially if the books
include suspicious notations or marks, because "the practice of
researching potential targets is consistent with known methods of al
Qaeda and other terrorist organizations."

The warning came as a surprise to purveyors of almanacs, which range
from statistical tomes listing the tallest buildings and the longest
bridges to folksy journals including planetary charts and apple pie recipes.

"Our almanac is about as far away as you can get from terrorism and
about as close as you can get to what you would think of as Americana,"
said Peter Geiger, editor of the Farmers' Almanac, a 185-year-old
compendium of weather predictions, cleaning tips and other advice.

I plan to carry an almanac with me from now on...

And I'm going to underline all sorts of passages.

WTF - another Harry-twisting of nonstory...

Lets call the subject "The Bush Administration Wants Your Almanacs"
then post a story, (probably copyrighted) with no attribution , that
says absolutely nothing about the government wanting to take almanacs.

And nobody has said that possessing an almanac proves you're a
terrorist.

Of course if someone with a higlighted almanac had blown up a landmark
building landmark building, bridge, or dam last week, you would have
been screaming about how the Bush admisitration's justice department
overlooked obvious evidence.

Harry, I know you don't believe your own bull****, why should the rest
of us?

I have snipped the rest of your out of context crap. Showing me a
dozen one liners from news articles does notback up your implication
that FBI is going to kick down anyone's door to see if they have
almanac on the coffee table. supporting your point. Even your
careful placing of ellipses doesn't seem to help you. "Drop the
almanac and put your hands up!" A catchy bull**** headline... of
course reading the articles will reveal that possessing an almanac
will hardly draw black helicopters to your rooftop.

How about this from Associated Press -

.... [The FBI] urged [police] officers to watch during searches,
traffic stops and other investigations for anyone carrying almanacs,
especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways ...

....The FBI noted that use of almanacs or maps may be innocent, "the
product of legitimate recreational or commercial activities." But it
warned that when combined with suspicious behavior — such as apparent
surveillance — a person with an almanac "may point to possible
terrorist planning."...

Exactly what part of this says that possessing an almanac will mean
that the FBI assumes you are a terrorist? You're full of **** Harry.
You know it. If I am to believe some of the things you have said in
the past, I assume you've made at least part of your living shoveling
bull****.

This is Grade A Choice stuff ... vintage hobnail boots and black leather
overcoats.

Lets see, the guy was seen standing looking for an extended period at an
important government building. He was carrying a map, marked with the
locations of nearby subway stations. He also carried an almanac that
listed the times and dates of events at that building.

That sure sounds like a spread eagled in the gutter at the barrel of a
submaching gun offense to you guys doesn't it? That should give a
federal Barney Fife the thrill of his career.

How about the guy was just one of ten thousand tourists in DC who
managed to figure out the Metro system and was checking out the times
the Smithsonian was open?

You guys are the scary ones here ... this idea should have died of
laughter in the bar or bombshelter where it originated.

What fantasy? In WW-II spies put ashore by a sub off the east coast were
caught carrying almanacs. May have been for the tides, but they were
carrying almanacs. Fantasy-II?

I bet they were wearing shoes, too. Beware strangers with shoes.
