Great Day on the Water
?Friend and I went canoeing today on the Shenandoah River near Luray,
Virginia. It was damned cold when we left his house this morning, but the temp did get up to the 50s during the day, and we were able to paddle for several hours in relative comfort. Saw a couple of guys fishing for smallies. The river was as full as I have seen it outside of flood stage in years, and, as usual, was crystal clear. Later, we visited friend's little bit of acreage near the river, built a campfire and then pulverized Bud cans with his 20-gauge single shot and his new Beretta .40 S&W. I did very well with the shotgun; it is an old "New England", light as a feather and fun to shoot. First time I tried his Beretta. It's a very nicely made handgun. But I prefer shotguns. Well, Spring isn't *that* far away. Supposed to get up near 60F tomorrow. Winter will return with a vengence, I fear. -- Email sent to is never read. |
