Great Day on the Water

?Friend and I went canoeing today on the Shenandoah River near Luray,
Virginia. It was damned cold when we left his house this morning, but
the temp did get up to the 50s during the day, and we were able to
paddle for several hours in relative comfort. Saw a couple of guys
fishing for smallies. The river was as full as I have seen it outside of
flood stage in years, and, as usual, was crystal clear.

Later, we visited friend's little bit of acreage near the river, built a
campfire and then pulverized Bud cans with his 20-gauge single shot and
his new Beretta .40 S&W. I did very well with the shotgun; it is an old
"New England", light as a feather and fun to shoot. First time I tried
his Beretta. It's a very nicely made handgun. But I prefer shotguns.

Well, Spring isn't *that* far away. Supposed to get up near 60F
tomorrow. Winter will return with a vengence, I fear.

That's nice to hear... I figured the Shenandoah would be frozen up by now.

Enjoying a day out shooting targets and plinking cans is a lot of fun. You
should see one of my daughters with my old Marlin .22 - the girl can punch out
the bullseye at 50 yards! Unbelievable.... she can actually out-shoot her old
man! My other twin daughter does about the same as me with shooting, and my
wife - well, she has no interest in shooting at all.

Have a great new years.

No ice anywere...bits of unmelted snow on the some of the banks. The
river is full and fast moving. For a change.
