Chuck, is it your opinion that basing a decision on a debate is more or less
thoughtful, meaningful, and conscientious? John H I think that one of the most important qualities we elect into the WH is "character." Presidential character. One candidate demonstrates it, the other does not. Many of the policies and platforms espoused by any candidate cannot be accomplished without congresional, or even international cooperation. Even so, we're stuck with a guy who is either presidential, or is not. Candidate A says: I have to admit that our policies were based on some miscalculations, but rather than show any weakness to our enemies we will nevertheless stay the course, and at all costs. Candidate B says: When you discover that policies were based on miscalculations, it makes sense to reexamine those policies in the light of complete or expanded information to consdier whether they continue to be the best available choices. You want the type of leadership that "A" represents. Fine. You're entitled. I would prefer a change from "A" to "B", and I'm entitled as well. |
