Default Bimini - is it an english word?

Is bimini a "real" english word, a trade name like Kleenex,
or something else?

It's the name of an island in Bahamas. Kind of like how the bikini top
was named after Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Makes sense.

It's just that when I look up "bikini" I find the
bathing suit defininition as well as the geographical.
But with "bimini" I can't seem to find anyplace that it's
actually defined as other than the geographical.

Bimini is not in the Oxford English Dictionary.

We today have a president of the United States who looks like he is the
son of Howdy Doody or Alfred E. Newman, who isn't smarter than either of
them, who is arrogant about his ignorance, who is reckless and
incompetent, and whose backers are turning the United States into a pariah.

What, me worry?

Go figure... but it is in Merriam-Webster. And I always considered the
OED to be authorative.

It's not in the annual updates, either. It might make it into the 3rd
edition, which is being compiled but will not be released for a few years.

I think it came from sunshade covers used on small fishing boats and covers
that covered tuna towers that were popular in Bimini. ( located in the
Bahamas 50 miles off of Miami)
