Bad strategic move.

The Repubs have spent most of their campaign money and energy smearing Kerry,
and with no small amount of success. Most of the people in the country
have a badly distorted image of Bush's opponent.

A debate would undo a lot of what the right wing has "accomplished" so far. If
Kerry loses this deal, it will be because the right wing spent more money and
energy telling the American public who John Satan Kerry is than Kerry was able
to. Kerry has been defined by the opposition- often a losing position in any
game.

Bush is not a good speaker, (to put it kindly). He would look like the daily
dufous
trying to find and correctly pronounce the words he would need to answer
questions from a panel.

If you were Bush, why would you submit to a direct, head to head comparison to
Kerry? Kerry would have nothing to lose, Bush would have nothing to gain.

As long as hate, fear, distrust, and stupidity are more common human currencies
than enlightened discourse and issues oriented discussions, Bush and his ilk
will continue to communicate through propaganda- not a civil debate.

they are guilty of.

Here we go again! What's a socialist? If you're going to use the word
constantly (and, I might add, erroneously), you may as well tell us what you
think it means.

I have yet to figure out why the American public has given Bush a pass
for the last four years. He has utterly failed as President. In almost
every way that matters, the country is worse off than it was four years
ago. Yet the smirking idiot gets up there in his controlled appearances,
says nothing, mangles the language, and half of America loves him.

Perhaps half the country is as stupid as he is...and therefore they
identify with the simple-minded Bush puppet.

It's because your party just doesn't get it. Kerry's campaign has decided
to ignore each candidate's record while in public office, and make this
election about each candidate's life from 30 years ago. Whoever made that
decision is a blooming idiot. But I guess that's what you do when you know
that you can't run on a 20 year voting record in the Senate that establishes
you as the most left-wing elected official in the country. No matter how
bad you paint Bush's 4 years as President, people like the decisions he's
made...and don't like the way Kerry voted in opposition to those decisions.
Kerry doesn't have a prayer in November.

I agree, except the Dem's have spent most of their money smearing Bush. We
still do not have Kerry saying I was a great Senator for 20 years, showing
leadership, etc. We are screwed by the Dem's running idiot, incompetents
also.
