Just a quick question for people.
W/ the growing popularity of larger and larger towable (Ie - the Great Big Mable) Is it "safe" to use the ski pylon for pulling it - or would the 2 mooring hooks on the back of the boat be better? W/ the Big Mable w/ 4 or 5 people on it - it seems to create just a ton of pull. Id hate to bend or break or just stress the pylon too much. What do most of u guys do? BTW - My boat is a 03 Tige 22v Riders edition. Thanks Rob You can reply to me at r_b_v at v_e_r_z_e_r_a doht c_o_m remove _ to get the correct address |

Mooring cleats would be lucky to stand 250 lbs of pull, before ripping from the deck. The pylon is rated to around 2000 lbs...you are in no danger of breaking anything pulling Big Mabel from it. The only reason anyone would want to pull from the back of a ski boat, is to make more room on board. But I think your Tige is a v-drive...if so, you wouldn't gain any room by moving to the back of the boat. Also, your Tige *should* have a center-pull "ring" in the top-center of the transom. It too is rated very high...you could tow from that if you wanted. Good luck. -- -Netsock "It's just about going fast...that's all..." http://home.insight.rr.com/cgreen/ |

Most pylons have warning stickers saying no tube towing. Depends on the boat as to strength of mooring cleat. But most boats taht are designed to pull skiers do have a tow hook at the back. Use this. The leverage on the pylon from a submerged tube would be tremendous. A lot more than a skier or even 2 could apply. |

Mooring cleats would be lucky to stand 250 lbs of pull, before ripping from the deck. From looking at the pictures of the 22v on Tige's website (nice wakeboard boat!), I don't think Rob meant the cleats, rather the transom eyes most small boats have that are most commonly used for tying the boat down to the trailer, towing things, and lifting the boat from the water: http://www.westmarine.com/images/full/05037_f.jpg Those eyes are plenty strong, more than good enough to tow from, especially since it looks like that boat doesn't have a standard tow hook in back, just a grab bar and two transom eyes. Be sure to get a tow harness, though. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=41024 (Not the best price, I'm sure) -- ~/Garth - 1966 Glastron V-142 Skiflite: "Blue-Boat" "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." -Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows |

Also, just for reference, the tube doesn't pull, the boat does. Not sure if these boats have thrust ratings but that would be the max load the pylon (or other tow eye) would ever see in smooth water... understandably, the tige will pull pretty hard. |
