Fishing today.
Went down last night to catch Papa Doo Run Run at the Santa Cruz beach
boardwalk. Great show. We camped in the SC harbor packing lot. How can people be so inconsiderate of others. House next to the lot, people sleeping on boats. About 4 am, group comes in (probably running for tuna), leaves the door on the truck open while prepping the boat for maybe 45 minutes. Door chiming all the time. Sonded like they were crushing cans. Another starts up his out board at the wash down about 3 am. Even signs saying no motors after 9pm at the washdown. We did not get to launch until about 9:30 am. Ramp was closed for a long while. They finally opened up one side. Two guys with a new Expedition 4x4 and new inflatable rib, launch everything. Did not put it in 4x4 while launching at low tide. Slid new car into the harbor. Diver said it was full of air and laying on it's side. The habor guy said they took 5 hours to retrieve the car. Hooked a come-a-long to the dock to roll it on to its wheels. As to fishing, was frustrating. Lots of little blacks and blues. Maybe 8". did get a few nice ones and a really nice vermillion. Caught almost as many lings as all the rest of the fish combined. Released all as undersize. Probably 22-28" max. Lost one halibut near the pier on the way in. Trolling anchovie with stinger. One boat near me was doing extremely well with live bait, but most look small. I fished swimbaits mostly, and were not touched until, I added a touch of chovie. Getzit was really hot, just like the days when we nailed salmon with it. Did not hear of many salmon, and F&G warden, said he had not seen many come in. Wife was happy, a couple of dolphins in the area. |
