Dam Florida!
PALMETTO, Fla. — Overnight attempts to fix the leak at the former Piney
Point phosphate processing plant were unsuccessful, local leaders acknowledged Saturday afternoon, as efforts have been ongoing to prevent a much bigger flood of wastewater. Crews used heavy equipment to pile earth material and rock in an attempt to "kind of plug the hole in the dam" on a large section of the breach but were unsuccessful due to the amount of pressure pressed upon it, said Manatee County acting county administrator Dr. Scott Hopes. "When they reached a point where they were about to celebrate, and then it blew threw," Scott said. Some 800 million gallons of process water, sal****er from the Port Manatee dredge project, rainfall and stormwater runoff are kept on the site in a few retention ponds located at the corner of U.S. Highway 41 and Buckeye Road. It's owned by HRK Holdings, and Florida’s Department of Environmental protection has oversight. Florida's Manatee County Public Safety Department has declared a state of emergency and ordered a complete evacuation of the Piney Point reservoir site and surrounding areas due a leak that could cause a collapse of phosphogypsum stacks, waste that is created during fertilizer production and phosphate rock mining. The Tampa-area reservoir could cause collapse at any time, according to Manatee County Director of Public Safety Jacob Sauer, who gave an update on Saturday. *But the evacuation notice was countermanded by Florida Governor Ron DeathSantis, who declared a ban on all reservoir collapses and evacuations for the entire county *and* a ban on mask mandates. That should solve the problem, right?* -- * Lock up Trump and his family of grifters. * |

I wonder if they had consulted engineers and scientists instead of liberal arts basket weavers and lawyers, the outcome would have been different.
