There are plenty of those kinds of setups down on the coast, and especially in Charleston. The reasoning, I'm told, is that the Gulf Stream is 50 miles off-shore so you want something fast to get you out there to fish and to return you to shore when you're done.

At least that's what the guys tell their wives.

Years ago, I guy I knew casually, neighbor of a friend, was telling about
filling up his dad’s boat. Pulled in to the marina and decided to go get a
beer while the attendant was filling. Said, after he came back the fuel
gauge had barely moved. Found out the boat had enough tankage to go from

Quads show up in those tests and I suppose it is just a matter of time
before some guy with the money goes with more. We are talking about
50+ foot boats tho. The thing that encouraged packing them on is the
power head doesn't move, they just swivel the lower unit so you can
pack them in tight. They are 3/4 of a ton each tho. The transoms are 9
or 10 inches thick.

Interestingly enough an engine on a sailboat is most useful when you
are approaching land or entering a harbor. Offshore they mostly get
used as expensive battery chargers. A lot of cruisers are going solar
however to get away from that.
