Why should a long and silly discussion over ATMs be any different? And, in case you want to ask again, I'll tell you again. I am only here to be marked "present" when this poor excuse of a discussion group finally takes the dirt nap. It is more pleasant than looking at the stupid and partisan **** you post. |

Quite a few places don’t take cards in Wyoming, Montana, etc. they run on a low margin. Small ice cream shops, some restaurants. I've motorcycled through Wyoming and Montana, but I guess I missed those places. But I always carry some cash, so I'll be OK next time. If you have cash, why are we having this conversation? The point is sometimes you need it and ATMs are handy to get it. If they weren't the banks would get rid of them. ATMs are expensive to set up and maintain. Cheaper than tellers. Some maintenance costs, but probably less than the teller. |

I have been away from this for a while but in the 90's A C&S VP told me an ATM costs about $250k to set up and a grand a month to keep going. That will be cheaper now but I am not sure how much. I know our ATMs were expensive and the M/A was expensive too. Handling the cash isn't cheap tho if it is not there next to the bank building. |
