Default Bayliner helm controls

I recently bought a 1986 bayliner trophy 2160. I’ve got it all figured out except the “pull knob” above the ignition key that only says baitwell. What does this do???

It sounds like the pump in the bait well.

You'd think it would activate a pump to either fill or agitate water in the well.
My previous boat had this feature but I didn't even try it out in the 4 seasons I had that boat. No live or dead fish allowed aboard.

They are usually located near the ignition.Could be so sun faded it doesn't look red anymore. My recollections are that motorcycles have kill switches and small boats have deadman switches on the shifter/throttle. On every boat I have had since the Carter administration the kill switch was a lanyard operated switch that shorted out the ignition.Of course, but if the lanyard is missing it could be a "pull knob" as he described.

Doubt it the lanyard switch is spring loaded. Can't start the
engine with the lanyard out. Of course the owners had 32 years to
monkey with whatever that switch was originally.

He didn't say if it was running but you're right. There can be a lot
more wrong with a boat that old.
