unabridged looking for obscure words. I grew up with 2 veteran
crossword puzzle parents and they played "full contact" scrabble with
the kids from a very young age so he doesn't stump me very often.

As usual, your "suspicion" would be wrong. I've been a lifelong student
and user of "obscure" words, and my dictionary of choice is the OED.
