Is alder, which is good for smoking fish, but not oak quality firewood .... Around here, few people mess with firewood anymore because the ins companies don’t allow it. And people are getting too lazy to mess with it. Most tree cutters haul the city trunks to the land fills because they usually have too many nails or staples in them to make saw logs. The mills won’t take them Ditto here. Although I've a neighbor who has replaced his electric furnace with a wood burner and uses firewood to heat his whole house. Last time I had an oak tree cut down he helped me split it, and then we took it all to his house. Saved me a few hundred bucks and made him happy. My niece in Bryans Road has one of those wood burning furnaces but they gave up the wood and burn oil in it now. The house still smelled like smoke years later |
