I installed the latest version of less than a year ago when I bought this computer along with a few of the plug-ins that I wanted. I use it as my default image viewer and occasionally for cropping, color correction or adding text, etc. It's great for that but it's primarily an image *viewer*, not an image *editor* which is what Gimp and Photoshop are. Huge difference and you really can't compare Irfanview to Gimp or Photoshop. Irfanview has very limited editing capabilities. For example, try opening two (or more) image files in Irfraview at the same time. You can't. In Gimp you can open as many as you want, take sections of one image and paste it in another. Here's an example: https://tinyurl.com/yap2hxcl Gimp (and Photoshop) have a much higher learning curve. Takes a while to understand all of their capabilities and how to use them. I don't use (or understand) a fraction of what Gimp can do. I use Paint Shop and I have V3, V4 & V7. They are all different enough that I keep all 3. V7 is very good and has features I have not even tried yet. |
