You're not playing in a league.

A league of my own ;-)
I also have no problem "improving my lie", teeing one up in the
fairway or simply skipping putting out a hole if I am just going too
slow that day. Sometimes I get back on track on the next tee.

Ha! That's the kind of golf I enjoy. If I play with someone who takes it too seriously, it takes some of the fun out of it, at least for me.

We are always in a competition in the league. We are required to enter our scores in the Golf
Handicap and Information Network provided by the USGA, so we try to follow the rules. I'll have to
admit we take 'gimmees' when putting, but much of the reason there is to speed play. ;)

But we have fun!

I just like getting out in the fresh air and hitting the ball. If I
find it, great, if I don't I tee one up from where I wanted it to go
and hit that. (I don't always tee up on the fairway but sometimes I
do)

You still get just as much fresh air looking for a ball in the woods!

With the added excitement of snakes and alligators ;-)
Usually we just don't want to hold up the course over a 40 cent golf
ball. If there is nobody behind us we will look around and usually
come up with several balls.
At my wife's club, they were so interested in keeping the course
moving that they gave away balls in the pro shop. The contract divers
kept what they found in the lakes but the grounds keepers threw the
ones they found in a barrel in the pro shop. I assume the club pro
sucked out all the Pro Vs before they made it to the barrel
They were moving over 200 rounds a day through the course, even on
short winter days.

Like you've said, you don't worry about a score. There's one course up here that gave away a dozen
golf balls when the round was played. I lost almost the entire dozen. General's Ridge. Mean golf
course.
