If I was a parent I’d be royally hated. Whose in charge of the budget boondoggle there, anyhow? Heads oughta roll over that... Most of the funds to operate Baltimore schools come from the state, which has not been keeping up with costs for several years. |

And what have the schools done with the funds? 50% of California budget goes to schools. And they still cry for more. Number 20 in spending per student. Number 40 in performance. With the largest state, we should at least get quantity discounts. Unfortunately, the discount is student performance. |

Baltimore spends much more money per student than does Fairfax County, yet has tremendous problems. It's sure as hell not the governor's fault. http://www.newsweek.com/do-baltimore...e-money-329085 |

Most of the funds to operate Baltimore schools come from the state, which has not been keeping up with costs for several years. It is not a money problem. The state gave them $66 million 2 years ago and the school system was so tied up with bureaucracy and incompetence that they never actually contracted with the HVAC companies to fix these systems. Now they have to give the money back because of a law that says if you give you money, we expect you to spend it. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/education/bs-md-ci-schools-money-returned-20180104-story.html They are still spending $17,144 per student and they are claiming a 71% graduation rate but the B'more Sun says an alarming number of those students are still functionally illiterate. It is not required that you show any competency on tests to graduate if you are in the "bridge" program and that is 37% of the graduates. |
