I had one big oak limb snap off, and the top break out of a small tree. It more than filled up the back of my 1/2 ton yard truck, and since I'm off work today, I took it to the yard trash compactor at the trash/recycling station. When it was my turn, I pulled up and started to unload. After a couple of pieces, a lady appeared and started helping me. I told her I appreciated it, but she didn't have to do that. She just smiled and said neighbors helping neighbors. We finished with mine, so I pulled up a bit and she pulled her truck up, filled with limbs as well. We went to work on hers, and a really old guy started walking over with bags of debris. I helped him with a couple, and then a middle aged black guy helped him with his last two and started helping us. The three of us finished up, thanked each other, and left. That's the South I live in. It's really different than some would have you believe. If that had been Maryland, you'd have gotten dirty looks for taking so long to unload your truck - all by yourself. |
