Delta did a great job. Pay a few extra bucks and you get a nice ride.
Riding around (well I guess it is parked outside) in a new Cadillac
crossover now.

How moch of a bribe does it take to be treated humanely by an airline?

I've never done it, but I hear flying first class will accomplish that. I can honestly say that most
civilian aircraft provide nicer treatment than most military aircraft! However, on the trip to
Vietnam, on a civilian aircraft chartered by the military, the treatment was spectacular.
Friendliest stewardesses I've ever seen.

About 3x what a cheap ticket costs. You can usually get a deal by
buying an upgradable coach seat and adding the upgrade but that may
not be available on all flights.
I know it is an extravagance but being treated like a customer and not
cargo is worth it.

The only time I flew military was Jamaica to Gitmo. You are right, it
was nasty. They treated me like a VIP (IBM contractor) and I got to
fly in a bigger seat behind the cockpit but it was still pretty rough,
It was one of those "Berlin air lift" type planes. (C54)

I was in the Air Force, but the only military aircraft I flew on we're
hopping rides a couple times. Every time the government sent me somewhere,
it was either commercial or charter. I had a couple nice rides, and a
couple rough rides. One on a C135, cargo 737. 14 people and luggage was
only cargo. Deadhead back from SEA. 250 knot tail wind, average about 800
mph ground speed,. C121 logistics command VIP flight from Write-pat to
Logan Utah. Even beer for sale. Very nice plane, mostly civilian
engineers.
