They dropped us off in a container port in Guatemala. Most of the people just stayed on the ship. We are a little more adventurous and we took a navy boat over to a Best Western across the bay and then went for a hike in the rain forest behind the "hotel" (actually just a bunch of cabins and a restaurant) It was one of the coolest excursions we ever took on a cruise. The town itself is pretty under whelming, They tried to set up a straw market for the cruise people but it was not Nassau or anything. The people were very friendly tho and it would have been hard to spend $20. We had just a $5 beer at the best Western and when we got another in town and handed the lady a $10, she was wondering if I wanted to buy her house. I let her keep the change and she gave me a hat. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Best%20Western%20Guatemala.jpg I have a picture around here somewhere (not on my computer) of Judy standing next to a kid with a machine gun. |
