That is particularly true in my boat. The range in operating temperature between start up and running hard will be less than 70 degrees. You still want the additives to deal with the various contaminants that develop in the oil but I would not over depend on that. |

Synthetics are vastly superior to dino oil. Better retention of viscosity at low and high temperature extremes is the primary benefit. Most manufacturers specify synthetics now for new cars. Like I said, how many cars are junked because of oil related failures? There is a reason people buy junkyard motors. That is perhaps the only big part that is there and still worth using. |
