There is a raised trail going through the Corkscrew that used to be the rail bed for a narrow gauge rail line they used for harvesting cypress up until the 50s. It was a pleasant walk with lots of birds and a couple gators ... no bugs. It was one of the properties he managed when he worked for South Florida Water Management. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Corkscrew%20dec%2015.jpg Is that the trail in the picture? Doesn't look like it would be much fun to walk through. The trail is elevated above the swamp (an old rail bed). It is really pretty cool because you get the feel you are right in there but you are high and dry. It is a little known secret around here. |
