Nice walk in the swamp
Ranger Dave (my SIL) took us on a hike through the Corkscrew
yesterday. There is a raised trail going through the Corkscrew that used to be the rail bed for a narrow gauge rail line they used for harvesting cypress up until the 50s. It was a pleasant walk with lots of birds and a couple gators ... no bugs. It was one of the properties he managed when he worked for South Florida Water Management. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Corkscrew%20dec%2015.jpg |

Doesn't look like it would be much fun to walk through. === The "trail" is a raised wooden walk way - interesting place to visit. |

You only went a few thousand feet after the walk in from the parking lot. (not a bad walk in itself) The picture I posted is about a half mile from the end of the boardwalk. The scenery is about like that everywhere but the plants and animals change. I was looking for the right light. |

Only to find it ;-) There are no signs and it is not advertised. For Wayne, this is on the East side of Corkscrew (immokalee rd), not the one on the West. |

It is really pretty cool because you get the feel you are right in there but you are high and dry. It is a little known secret around here. |
