I remember the movie last of the Mohicans, filmed near Ashland. Looked like beautiful country. That whole Smokey/Blue Ridge area is very similar, all the way from Georgia up to West Virginia. You pretty much have to be a botanist to tell the difference in the vegetation. It is really nice up there. That was a great motorcycle ride from DC up into the GW forest. If I was rich, I would have one of those "cabins" on the side of a mountain to go to in the summer. I actually liked the North Carolina area the best of the three. It was close to Nentahala (about 10 miles east). way back in the sticks. |
