China had the biggest military parade in their history this week and
it was clearly aimed at Japan. (Their first major celebration of the 1945 defeat of Japan). This is happening in the midst of territorial disputes. Will that be the next place we see a war? It is amusing that they are making it sound l;ike Mao's troops pretty much beat Japan by themselves and the reality is that the nationalist army was the only significant force. I guess they waited 70 years and hope nobody remembers. |

I am not sure I want them to if it is just about some unoccupied islands that they have been arguing about for 200 years. |

At what point does the island taking stop? It would certainly be a place where the ownership was less ambiguous. |

Further, despite its massive military parade, China has announced it plans to cut its military forces by 300,000, and concentrate more on technological advances. Since the end of the U.S. War Against Vietnam, China has invaded far fewer countries and destroyed their governments than we have. ![]() I don't read many of Herring's posts anymore, but I see from your reposting of one of his, he thinks the POTUS wouldn't "do anything" about Chinese aggression. I wonder what the aggression is to which he refers, other than silly posturing, and what would he expect our POTUS to "do" about China? I'd favor parachuting in Dick Cheney, of course. |

China has used the army as a public works program. There were a lot of industries that were being handled by the PLA. The one that affected us the most was their civilians arms industry that makes all of the Polytech guns and started that bimetal ammo glut that the Russians have copied. I think they were also at the center of the whole steel industry in China for a long time. A lot of this reduction in force only reflects spinning off these industries. There is also the military reality that we are not likely to have land wars where large masses of foot soldiers will make the day. The minigun went a long way to taking down a mass charge, particularly if it is in the air. |

The military, pretty much runs everything. |
