Two friends died decades ago in separate crashes while flying their small private planes, and one died in the crash of a private jet. Jealousy about what, Bilious? Some of us don't even like to fly in much safer commercial jets. People die in commercial aircraft also. I used to like to fly commercial. But over the years, the seating got tighter, and the hassles got bigger. I still fly a few times a year. I was going to get a private pilots license years ago, but not enough time with work, school and racing cars. What's with the "jealousy" comment, Bilious? Why would anyone be jealous of one of the right-wing morons here taking flying lessons or buying a half dozen airplanes? Where do you get these lame-brained ideas? You can not seem to comprehend what is written. Really? You brought up "jealousy." Why should anyone who doesn't give a rat's ass about private aviation be jealous over whether one of the dumb**** righties here takes flying lessons or buys planes? |

The bill was $8k, not horrible and the "space seat" on Air New Zealand was not that much different than the 1st class seat. I think the food was the same and the drinks were still free. I can't imagine doing that trip back in the cargo section. |

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. If someone gave me an airplane it would be up for sale in a New York minute. Poor Swill, he seems to base a person's worth solely on their possessions. |

People don't learn to fly in order to buy airplanes. People learn to fly because it's something they have interest in and want to experience the process and challenge of learning and earning the license. I'd never buy an airplane. For my purposes renting made far more sense. I'll never even make any use of the ticket I earned. But, it's another item to toss into the bucket of life experiences and I am glad I did it. BTW, the comment Harry made is characteristic of his narcissism. If *he* hasn't done it then anyone who does is a dumb**** and is not worth his valuable time to read of their experiences and questions of others. Harry's time is very valuable you see. I gave up trying to have a normal, adult conversation with him. |

I gave up trying to have a normal, adult conversation with him. Actually, I have done it. I took two flying lessons in the late 1960s out of the Detroit area, but then a friend of mine crashed and died while flying his private plane, and a short time later, Walter Reuther, one of my heroes and for whom the agency I worked for did consulting work, died when the Lear Jet he was in crashed. A few years later, a commercial printer whose company did work for me died when his private plane crashed. Indeed, I don't give a rat's ass about private aviation, but I came to this conclusion after trying it and several friends/colleagues died while involved in it. And I do agree the fellow here who is questioning you about it *is* a dumb ****, but my opinion of him has nothing to do with his interest in flying. Actually, I think you and W'hine are far more narcissistic than I've ever been. Has W'hine told everyone once again how much fuel his barge holds, or how much water it draws? ![]() |

I can't imagine doing that trip back in the cargo section. Given the kind of money you guys are talking about, I wonder what a cruise would cost. At least it would be enjoyable. Dunno, I did see a nice looking "Bright Horizons" cruise (Holland America) from FTL down the coast to Colombia and back up through the western Caribbean and it was about $15k for a nice cabin for two by the time you add up all the fees. That was if you did not attend the seminars. (another $3k) You can save about $4.5k a head if you are willing to live in the bilge. That still does not cover your bar tab and the excursion fees. For our trip, being there in New Zealand was the point. A boat ride is a boat ride. Two ways to the South Pacific by boat would be tedious and very expensive. Maybe if I was rich and wanted to be gone a couple months it would be an option. I would like to see the canal. In real life, the airports were the only bad thing about the flight. ANZ takes very good care of you on the long stretch and the other two hops are tolerable in 1st class. We did crash in the Marriott in LA on the way home to break up the trip. My wife got it free with bank points and it is 5 minutes from the airport. That made it very tolerable. The only mistake I made was not taking a later flight from LAX to ATL because we had a few hours in ATL. The Ft Myers flight was the first one of the day. We could have kicked it in the Marriott for a couple more hours and took the late flight out of LAX. |
