I am amazed at how much free time Trump is getting, at least on CNN but it is really everywhere. He may actually be able to afford this campaign if it is not costing him anything to get TV time. I still think he has a pretty small following but I never underestimate what people will fall for if they see it often enough on TV. His poll numbers indicate support by about 20 - 24 percent of the Republican base. That's not nearly enough to become POTUS. He has started to moderate his mouth though and is saying things intended to appeal to Independents and some Democrats. Reagan strategy. He has also promised to release position statements and details of what he will do to solve problems before the next debate scheduled for September. I never underestimate the incredible stupidity of the American electorate. In a 3 way race where 40% might win. who knows? I do think Trump would be a disaster but could it possibly be worse than Carter, GW or Truman? |

He finally explained how he'd get the Mexican government to pay for building a 1,000 mile wall to keep illegals out. Basically it's an ultimatum. Pay for the wall or start paying a hefty tariff on products manufactured in Mexico and sent to the USA for sale. Not exactly a wacky idea, frankly. He might kill two birds with one stone. Ford is going to open another large assembly plant in Mexico. If his tariffs applied to those auto products as well it might cause Ford to reconsider and keep the jobs in the USA. |

Trump is going to single-handedly abrogate NAFTA? That should be fun to watch. |

That would really upset the apple cart but since NAFTA is a treaty, congress would have to agree. The idea of a wall is pretty silly anyway. Without a "Berlin" style enforcement effort, the people would quickly go over, under or through that wall. Penn and Teller put that to the test by duplicating the typical border fence found along the Mexican border, then having some randomly chosen people attack it. The average time to get through was measured in minutes. Digging a hole under the wall would be trivial compared to a day's work that they are coming here to do. |
