Mr. Luddite
- show quoted text - "Getting really old is tough and it's especially bad in a very close, Italian cultural environment. *My wife and her sister have been the primary caregivers for both their father (who died a little over a year ago) and the mother for the past 6 years. *After the father died it got worse with phone calls at all hours 10 or more times a day, picking up medicine, buying food, paying her bills, dealing with her lawyer, etc., * plus just the demands for time. *Now that it's all over and although it's only been 24 hours, Mrs.E can't believe the sense of not having to run out to pick something up or take the complaining phone calls. It's something we need to plan for while we still have a few brain cells left. *Nobody wants to become a burden on their kids." Funny...I was talking to my sister last week and she mentioned it still felt funny not going two or three times a week to visit mom at the nursing home. Mom passed just over three years ago. |
