The .50 is capped at 36000 pounds of pressure and the 500 can go up to 60000. That means the muzzle energy can be at least 1000 ft/p greater. It sounds more like a good caliber for a carbine than a handgun They have bullets up over an ounce moving at over 1500 fps which puts you in the 12ga slug category. Quick followup shots are a bitch. Seriously. If a bear is after you and you miss with the first shot, which is likely, you'll be joining Mr. Griz for lunch. Of course, in Florida, it's the perfect Stand Your Ground revolver, eh? Brain fart again Maybe you should try some Beano. You are really incapable of civil conversation. This is rec.boats. I tried "civil" for several months here, from December through the end of February. Same old right-wing assholes acting like right-wing assholes. There's no point in being "nice" in this sewer. My point about the .500 S&W is perfectly valid. Quick followup shots are a bitch, and if you miss the bear, the bear is going to have you for lunch. You disagree, eh? Well, I have shot a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. It's a bitch to handle, and, really, not that much fun. The .500 S&W has to be about the same or worse. Of course, you're a theoretical shooter, right? I've been to the range twice this month so far. You? -- Proud to be a Liberal. |

[NB: Harry does not fall into that category.] If you are going to buy commercial ammo, you won't be able to afford to shoot this a lot. It looks like the ammo is $2 a round.
