We are in the middle of a three to four day period of rainy weather here

in the northeast. I was commenting to my wife that it's the first

period of extended rain that we've had all summer. Prior to the last

couple of days I can only recall a couple of days that it rained but it

was short lived, not lasting more than a half day or so.

Also absent this summer were any heavy duty thunderstorms. Usually

there are several during the course of the summer but this year we may

have had one or two and they were not strong at all.

Could be a fluke. Hope it's not a sign of a severe winter.

As you probably know we spent our summer on Long Island and the Cape

Cod Islands. We thought the weather was a bit on the cool side and

by early September were ready to head south again, somewhat emboldened

by the lack of heavy hurricane activity in the tropics. All went

well until we got into Virginia and the Carolinas, and then we had

about 10 steady days of cool wind and rain. Working around the rain

we managed to get south of Charleston, SC and at the first sign of a

good weather window went offshore for a 36 hour marathon run down the

coast. We pulled into Port Canaveral about noon time today and now

we are back in classic Forida summer weather with heat, humidity and

scattered showers that come and go.

I've heard that the coastal south has had a lot of rain. My older son

lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC. His house is about 3 miles from the Isle of

Palms. When asked how the summer has been, he says, "wet".

We went right through there a few days ago and it was *very* wet. It's

a beautiful morning here on the Indian River just a few miles south of

the space center.

We had a weird week in SC last week. It was cool, overcast and rainy
everyday, with just a couple hours of sun finally on Friday. This week
has been great, and today it'll be 89. It's supposed to cool off again
over the weekend, with highs in the low 70's and lows in the upper 40's
(!). Back in the 80's next week. Typical Fall weather in SC.

Came back from a nice weather week in Santa Monica sitting the
granddaughters. 80's here today. Supposed to be 97 by Saturday. Rain?
What's that.
